(Lauren Boyd was arrested at a protest at Hazelton Laboratories on June 20th on the charges of disturbing the peace, obstructing access to the lab, and resisting arrest. She is currently in jail and awaiting trial, where she intends to plead guilty and serve probation and community service.)
On the charges of disturbing the peace, obstructing access to the Hazelton Laboratory, and resisting arrest, Lauren Boyd is undeniably 100% guilty. But she hasn’t broken the law–it was already broken long before. Instead of being a protection for citizens, it has become just a handy tool at the disposal of the rich and powerful. Lauren intends to plead guilty and accept the legal punishment of her sentence as a public statement of her personal convictions: that sometimes the cause is more important than the law–when the law fails the people, the cause cannot. YES! is deeply committed to helping Lauren in this trying time in her life, and calls for all of its supporters and the concerned citizens to petition the legality of the case against her. We hope that you will get involved and show your support for a woman who has committed her life to the community of Cape Hazard and the environmental movement at large.
